I started a short story this week, because I go crazy when I'm not working on something. I tried to occupy my brain other ways. I watched a movie this weekend, I read "69", "Sordid Sex Lives", and started "Audition". I did the treadmill two days in a row like I'm suppose to and listened to music. All this did was encourage me. Especially the movie, "Departures." I was fascinated by the depictions of encoffining. Of course, as a horror writer I had the obvious question: what if you woke up?
Granted, there is nothing new about people waking up while "dead" in fiction. Yet there is a specific tenderness and beauty to Japanese encoffining that inspires me. So I started writing "Hotaru". I didn't write much, before I had serious concerns about it turning into a novella. I already have a novella to edit. Two actually, and four novels. Hotaru doesn't care. He keeps growing, and has been renamed "Bad Boy." Because if you have a chance to start over, you don't always decide to be a good guy.

Being buried alive might be overdone, but it is still scary as Hell. Off to google "encoffining"...
Hurrah for overactive brains! :D
That is one of the most interesting story-seeds I've ever heard of. Go for the novella, go go go!
Sounds like it will be a fascinating, and of course, dark story. Here's hoping we get to read it soon :)
cripes! 4 novels??? how to you manage???
Love the concept already. Also love the overactive brain :D
